Winners of Folk Quest 2007 set to play at Saul Canal Festival
The highly successful Folk Quest of 2006 made it inevitable that this year would see an extended competition. As a result, Folk Quest 2007 saw the introduction of three categories: “Under 21’s”, “Solo Artists” and “Bands & Duos”, for a bigger and better event.
The panel of judges, made up of representatives from BBC Radio Gloucestershire, EntsWeb.com and Saul Canal Festival, found it a very difficult pick overall winners from the wealth of high quality entries submitted but they were undivided in their final decision with clear and deserving winners emerging in each of the three classes.
First past the post in the Under 21’s group was 19 year old Terry Emm. This reclusive singer songwriter from Cheltenham is currently causing a small but intense stir on the UK folk scene. Terry is currently writing and recording his debut album.
The Solo Artistes section was won by guitarist/vocalist Pete Taylor, a writer and performer of contemporary acoustic music. His distinct vocal style is complemented by his excellent guitar playing.
From the bands and duos category it was the duo Stool Pigeon that shone through with their music hall comedy style and clever song lyrics.
Founder of the event, EntsWeb’s Al Best commented; “Being involved with Folk Quest is a very rewarding experience. It’s extremely gratifying to see so much up and coming musical talent and to feel that we may help, in some small way, to further some very promising careers in music.”
